Moving into a new space is always exciting, but sometimes it can take a while for that new space to feel like home. Today I’m sharing 5 easy ways to make a house feel like home. These are simple and chances are, these are things you would naturally add over time. But making these 5 things a priority is sure to make your house really feel like home.

1. Plants
This is one that I put off buying for so long! I’ve always been a little bit afraid of real plants because they can be pricey and chances are, I’ll probably kill them. After trying a handful of real plants, I’ve moved on to fake plants and dried eucalyptus (one of my favs!). These add just a touch of natural color and texture that really livens up a room!
2. Photos
This is pretty obvious, but nothing makes a house feel like home quite like having your own photos up! One of my first house projects was this gallery wall of wedding photos in our front room and it truly makes me smile every time I walk in the house! Photos can also be such a great conversation starter!

3. Mixing Textures
Mixing textures has become one of my favorite ways to add life and dimension to a room! It’s crazy what a cute rug, chunky throw blanket, and a fake plant can do to soften up a space and make it feel more welcoming!
4. Personalized Touches
In the same way that photos can make a space feel cozier, personal touches like a sign from your wedding, a family heirloom, or old furniture passed down from family can add so much! Beautiful home décor can be found anywhere, but nothing compares to the heart behind personal pieces that have a story!

5. Candles
It’s no secret that smells evoke emotion. I can still imagine the smell of all of my childhood friend’s homes and I often wonder how my house smells to people who aren’t here all day every day! Does anyone else think about that? Finding a handful of scents you like for different seasons will make your home feel even more comfortable. I prefer candles because I love how they add to the ambiance of a room and they can double as décor, but essential oils or room sprays can achieve the same goal!
Can you imagine how your house would feel if you didn’t have these things? I know mine would feel so drab and ordinary! There are so many ways to add these elements to your home without breaking the bank. Amazon can be your best friend when it comes to decorating a home. If you’re having trouble making your house feel like home, try adding a few of these and see how they transform the way your house feels!
